Mark Phillips was born in 1969
in Washington, Pennsylvania. He and his parents
moved to North Carolina in 1985 for his father's job. In 87 he
enrolled at
East Carolina University's School of Art on scholarship
from R.J. Reynolds.
He focused jointly on Painting and Printmaking.
In 91, he joined a studio
headed by painter and video artist, Laura Davis, and started
making monoprints and collagraphs. In 92 he left school and started
The Agave Plant Studio his first incarnation of
a print studio. In 94, he started
his own sign business making custom hand-carved redwood signs
and graphics.
His sign business folded in the fall of 98.
He moved to Chicago in 1999 and supports himself as a freelance
artist and signmaker.
In 2003 he cofounded Studio
935, where he
teaches printmaking and art classes.
He exhibits in and around the Chicago Area and select shows around
the country
including New York and Minneapolis. His work is in Private Collections
in the US,
Canada, France, Germany, Belgium Australia and England.
